In the spirit of Christmas, I decided that I was in need of yummy yummy sugar cookies.. And being me, I LOVE anything with sour cream in it, so naturally these cookies are right at the top of my list.
I passed them out to neighbors and family, and they came back with amazing reviews! So I figured I would share..
Now there are many Sour Cream Sugar Cookie recipes, but here is my favorite;
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together eggs, sugar, and shortening (cream well until it is light and fluffy), and then add the sour cream and vanilla. In a separate bowl mix all dry ingredients, and then slowly add to the sour cream mixture. Mix until well blended. Chill at least one hour. After dough has chilled, roll out (for crispier cookies roll thin, and for softer cookies roll thicker), and cut with cookie cutters. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are slightly golden. Let cool, and decorate.
Now for the yummy yummy frosting! Both frostings are the same base, so one batch will give you enough to decorate one batch of Sour Cream Sugar Cookies about half and half .
Cream together cream cheese, butter and vanilla until it is light and fluffy (the softer the butter and cream cheese are, the easier this will be). Slowly add the 2 cups of powered sugar. Mix well. Remove half of the frosting and place in separate bowl or frosting bag.
To the remaining frosting add Nutella, add either 1/4 to 1/2 cup depending on how strong of a Nutella flavor you would like. Mix well. Slowly add the extra 1/2 cup powdered sugar (if it is still too thin, you can add more). Frost cookies and ENJOY!
